EVENT: Dinner at the Jefferson (Sept. 30th)

“EJ” Wright, a member of the Coast VA chapter, and whose family owns the renowned Jefferson Restaurant in beautiful Williamsburg, has generously invited the Coastal and Blue Ridge chapters to dine on the establishment’s exquisite menu. Here are the details:

Date: Saturday, September 30, 2023
Time: 4:00PM
Location: The Jefferson Restaurant, 1453 Richmond Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185

We will be seated in a separate area so, upon check-in with EJ; have a seat, order a beverage, sip and wait for other club members to arrive.

Plan to arrive precisely at 4PM at the Jefferson Restaurant. There we will enjoy a bountiful “dunch” (lunch/dinner) and renew friendships. The food is legendary.

Early arrivals to Williamsburg can visit nearby Historic Williamsburg. The historic area is open to visitors without charge. Stroll around, take photos, visit the bakery for a pastry and coffee. Williamsburg includes many historic buildings, see history and listen to interpreters whilst meandering about, visit retail shops and museums. Tickets are ONLY necessary to enter certain historic buildings. If you are familiar with Salem Village (Winston-Salem, NC), the streets, taverns, bakery and shops are open to the public without fee, just like historic Williamsburg.

Following dunch, Volvo-ists may resume their Williamsburg meandering before driving home or overnight in Williamsburg. We’ll gather for breakfast Sunday morning. Afterward, take a parade lap through historic Williamsburg, led by EJ who will provide color commentary via FRS radio, before departing for home. Be certain to bring a FRS 2-way radio set to channel 11.

EVENT: The Tidewater Region Antique Automobile Club of America

The Tidewater Region Antique Automobile Club of America (TRAACA) has invited the Coastal Virginia and other local chapters of the VCOA to attend their 49th annual meet at Chesapeake City Park on Saturday, September 16, 2023.

Chesapeake City Park is located at 900 City Park Dr, Chesapeake, VA 23320 and contains 75 acres of available display space. For those coming from out of town, a number of hotels are nearby.

Antique and contemporary cars are welcome to display at the meet. This is an excellent opportunity for us to show our beloved Volvos and see a variety of other makes and models. We’ll celebrate the 96th year of the Volvo.

Motoring Excursion

You won’t want to miss this great opportunity to meet up and travel with fellow Volvo owners on this June 9th drive. You can head up Thursday evening and jump in on the itinerary from the start or come up later and catch up with the crew where and when you’re comfortable.

Organizer, Rick Larson, has created a very informative set of documents (available for download HERE), which outline the itinerary, motel/hotel accommodations near the start of the tour as well as at the end of the tour. He has also included contact information for each stop – just in case you need them. The attendees will be communicating via FRS radios, and Larson has included information on obtaining an inexpensive set if you don’t already own one.

This event begins Friday morning at CMA Volvo Cars of Charlottesville and ends at the Hazy Mount Vinyard and Brewery on Friday afternoon (just in time for dinner). Close in proximity to Wintergreen Resort, many will likely choose to lodge there for the evening, then take a leisurely drive home on Saturday morning.

We hope you will be able to attend. All correspondence related to this event should be directed to the event organizer Rick Larson. Click HERE to email Rick.

1st Annual Cape Henry Classic

JUNE 10th (Saturday) / 11am-4pm

Event organizer, Rachel Balderson, is inviting members of the Coastal Virginia Chapter to a car show. You can even participate, if you like. While the event is a display of classic cars owned by Active and Retired Military, non-military cars/owners are welcome. Just please read the following:

If someone wants to participate who is not active duty or retired military, they can either be escorted by someone who has base access; meaning they just have to drive in right behind the person with the access. Or there is a local population access form that can be filled out but it must be turned in at least three days in advance. They can reach out to me at this email to acquire that form.

To participate/register your classic car, complete the Registration Form, available here.

Thank you!
