Alcon Automotive (Chesapeake, VA)
Nearly anybody can change oil and perform minor maintenance on your Volvo but for specialized Volvo service in the greater Norfolk area, I recommend Randy Bullock at Alcon Automotive in Chesapeake (www.alconautomotive.com). Randy comes with decades of Volvo-specific experience, having worked in nearly all the major Volvo dealership service departments in the Tidewater area from Continental Volvo in Virginia Beach, to Parkway Volvo in Chesapeake (beginning in the 80’s). Randy recently performed the major 150,000 mile service on my XC-90 including all Volvo-recommended items. With my VCOA discount, I was very pleased with the overall price and the service.

Bresco Vehicle Services Ltd. (England)
We found replacement “S” retainers for the horizontal stainless trim that goes on the doors at the windows of our 1800. They came from Bresco Vehicle Services Ltd. in England. (www.bresco.com) They were reasonably priced, and delivered pronto. I’d recommend them. They specialize in early British sports cars.

European Motors, Inc. (Newport News, VA)
This is a small, tucked away business in the heart of Newport News, VA, and, upon first glance, says they’ve been there a long time. Don’t let the cover fool you. Inside is a father-son team that knows exactly what they’re doing. The son is the hands-on mechanic who has a passion (and knowledge) for the older Volvos and knows exactly how to keep them on the road (and the customer happy). Literally, from a mechanics standpoint, he’s a “one man band”. Buying my ailing 1992 240, I recognized it had not seen any real maintenance in quite some time. A “punch list” was created by EMI and they worked through it quickly and efficiently. My 240 was on the road in short order. Highly recommended. Fair in pricing, and reasonable in turnaround time.
